A practical guide

How does online coaching work?

Online coaching is a scheduled conversation with a clear purpose. You join from your own space, agree what you would like to explore and work with a coach on reflection and next steps. Here is what to expect at The Ground Within.

Request your free intro call

1. Start with an introductory conversation

Our free 15-minute intro call helps both sides check the fit. Share a short description of your topic, ask how the work is organised and discuss availability. You do not need to send a detailed personal history. The call does not obligate you to book further sessions.

2. Agree the session details

Use the session enquiry page to indicate your preferred session and availability. Include your time zone so that appointment times are unambiguous. We arrange the time and further details with you; an enquiry alone is not a confirmed booking.

3. Prepare your space and your question

Choose a private room, check your internet connection and give yourself a few minutes before the call. Headphones may help you hear clearly and keep the conversation private. Write down one thing you would like to understand better; a long preparation document is unnecessary.

  • What would make this conversation useful?
  • What feels most important right now?
  • What have I already tried?
  • What would a realistic next step look like?

4. Work at an agreed pace

Regular coaching is delivered by video. You and the coach agree the topic and the direction of the conversation. Reflection may explore priorities, patterns, resources or possible actions. You decide what to share, and you can ask to pause or clarify the approach at any time.

5. Take the conversation into everyday life

You might leave with a next step, a question to reflect on or an option to test. Decide what is manageable in your actual circumstances. If you continue, the next conversation can review what you noticed and whether the focus needs to change.

What about body awareness online?

A reflective exercise can include noticing your breathing, posture or tension while you remain in your own space. This does not require touch or physical treatment. Ask whether a particular exercise is part of your session and how it relates to your goal; participation should be agreed with you.

Questions worth asking before you begin

Ask about the scope of coaching, the method, fees, cancellation arrangements and how confidentiality is handled. Coaching does not diagnose or treat medical conditions and is not a substitute for psychotherapy. Understanding those boundaries helps you choose the support that fits your needs.
